Ana Ortiz took birth in New York City, USA. Her father Angel L. Ortiz is a former Philadelphia City Council and her mother is of Irish American descent. Ana grew up in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

In her childhood, Ana aspired to become a ballerina. She studied ballet for more than eight years. It was the pain of dancing en pointe which forced her to make a career outside the world of ballet. She next attended the Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts. She next enrolled in the University of Arts in Philadelphia. Making her professional stage debut was a regional theatre production of ‘Dangerous Liaisons’. Among her other stage credits are Chrissy in a European Touring Production of ‘Hair’; ‘Dog Lady and the Cuban Swimmer’, ‘References to Salvador Dali Make Me Hot’.

Ana also joined LAByrinth Theatre Company. She next made an important appearance on the off-Broadway production ‘In Arabia, We’d All Be Kings’. In 1999, the play was named as one of the 10 best plays by the magazine Time Out New York. On ‘Ugly Betty’, she appears as Hilda Suarez. She first auditioned for the role of Betty but that role went to America Ferrara instead.  

Among her TV appearances are ‘NYPD Blue’, ‘Dr. Quinn: Medicine Woman’, ‘Commander in Chief’, ‘Boston Legal’, ‘ER’, ‘The New Adventures of Old Christine’, ‘Over There’, ‘Kristin’ and ‘Everybody Loves Raymond’. On the second season of ‘Army Wives’, she made a guest appearance as a waitress named Sandi. The lady has also been active in movies, most notably ‘King of LA’ and ‘Tortilla Heaven’.

Ana has very recently moved to Dumbo, New York City. Her hobbies are hiking, horseback riding, softball, water sports, and writing poetry.

On June 9, 2007 Ana Ortiz married musician Noah Lebenzon. As of now, they’re expecting their first child, to be delivered in July 2009.

Ana Ortiz portrays Hilda Suarez on ‘Ugly Betty’. She’s Betty’s vibrant sister. When she was at 17, she got pregnant and delivered a son named Justin. However, she’s not one of the leading characters, but has an important part in the plot of the show.
