Its time the creators of American Idol take a leaf out of the book of Ugly Betty producers how to replace Paula Abdul.
The negotiations going on between Paula Abdul and ABC have fallen apart. Now “3rd Rock” Emmy winner Kristen Johnston has been finalized by creators of Ugly Betty to play the now-recurring role of Helen, Mode’s newest office temp and Amanda’s elder doppelganger.
The negotiations looked promising enough till last week when the deal came undone. Of all the reasons responsible for this slip through, it’s partly, due to the ex-”Idol” judge’s insane list of demands. If I were to put it in two words, I would say -Private - Jet.
As it’s confirmed that Abdul will not be appearing on Dancing With The Stars either as a contestant or a judge, so you can be sure that she won’t be seen on ABC anytime soon.
When I first read about ABC talks with Abdul about her guest appearance in Ugly Betty my first thoughts were, at least one party is not serious about it. Frankly guys, these talks with ABC were nothing more than a negotiation ploy at least to me. Abdul’s heart is still in American Idol and she wishes to return to the reality show, albeit on her own terms.
Anyways, Abdul’s loss is Johnston’s gain. She is very excited about her role on the popular series Ugly Betty and looking forward to it.
“I’ve always considered myself a poor man’s Paula Abdul,” Johnston says with a laugh. She describes her Betty character as “Amanda in 10 years. She’s still trying to get into the right clubs, wearing tight dresses… tragic. I think (Helen) sees herself as Samantha from ‘Sex and the City.’ Except, of course, she’s a temp.”
Johnston will first appear in the second half of “Ugly Betty’s” two-hour premiere on October 9.
